My Must Have Foods for Glowing Skin
There is no better feeling than looking in the mirror and seeing a glowing complexion looking back at you! When I revamped my eating patterns with whole foods, I was surprised at how it changed the look of my skin. For the better!
Here’s my go to guide for foods that will give you glowing, radiate skin, plus more!
1. Salmon
This is number one for a reason! I could write all day about how beneficial salmon is for just about every function in your body, but it is definitely a food that will give you glowing skin! Let’s thanks the omega 3’s fatty acids.
How I implement:
Aim to eat salmon at least twice a week. Always look for wild caught. This will ensure that you are getting fresh fish that hasn’t been given chemicals and/or hormones. I love to keep it simple with salmon. A little olive oil, salt, pepper, and squeeze of lemon.
Smoked salmon is also a favorite of mine and can be easily added to your morning bagel!
2. Pomegranates
This fruit is packed full of antioxidants that support your skin’s health. Not only will it give you glowing skin, but it contains linolenic acid which is crucial for the longevity of your skin. That means it’s a must have for aging gracefully!
How I implement:
As most wonderful things, pomegranates are only available in the fall and winter season. At least here on the East Coast. What I like to do is buy a surplus and freeze the seeds. I then use the seeds in my smoothies!
I also love using pomegranates to make healthy holiday dishes. They are the perfect addition to a salad, while also giving it a festive look!
3. Avocados
The benefits of this fruit are endless. We are getting our omega 3’s fatty acids, like salmon. However, if you are vegan, this is a great replacement for fish/meat. Plus, it’s also a source of Vitamin C and E which are imperative to our skin’s health.
How I implement:
Avocado toast is a fast and easy way to get your avocado fix. If you are someone who hates the taste of avocado, I suggest using it in a smoothie. Add in some coconut water and berries and you have yourself a creamy smoothie with a natural berry flavor.
4. Grapefruit
A vital vitamin for healthy skin is Vitamin C. Grapefruit will not only provide you with Vitamin C but is also very hydrating. Grapefruit consists of roughly 90% of water, so your skin will get the hydration it needs. Not to mention that the scent of grapefruit has been shown to help inspire confidence and cut cravings.
How I implement:
I love the scent and flavor of grapefruit, so I keep it simple and eat it plain. I have always thrown slices on a salad with a nice balsamic vinaigrette.
5. Sweet potatoes
What is not to love about sweet potatoes?! Sweet potatoes contain beta carotene which converts into Vitamin A. Why is this important? Vitamin A is retinol. So instead of buying those expensive creams and serums, a sweet potato can give you the same benefits, plus more! As a plus, it may also help protect your skin from the sun.
How I implement:
Well, this is the best excuse to eat fries! I usually bake them in the oven with a sprinkle of ginger and olive oil. I also love to add these to salads for a heartier meal.
6. Cucumber
Cucumbers are similar to grapefruit in that they are mainly water. Therefore, cucumbers are a great way to give your skin hydration!
How I implement:
Again, I love keeping it simple and eat these plain. If you find yourself with a surplus, you can always cut them in slices and freeze them. They make a great addition to a smoothie! If you are experiencing some dark undereye circles, throw some chilled slices on your eyes for a refreshed look!
7. Lemon
This is last but certainly not least. Like other citrus, lemon has Vitamin C which helps with the production of collagen. But lemon also can aid in digestion and help with detoxification.
How I implement:
Lemon water. Almost daily, I drink water with a slice of lemon. It helps to jazz up plain water while helping our immunity with Vitamin C.
I also love to use lemon as an ingredient for my DIY vinaigrette. I add a little olive oil, lemon juice, ginger and a little bit of coconut amino acids. It’s a dressing that can be made quickly and cheaply.
While there are so many other foods that can help keep our skin healthy, these are my go-to.
Enjoy these natural and fresh foods that promote glowing skin!
